Nickle's 2017 Year in Review

Let’s take a look back at a very successful and action-packed year for Nickle Electrical Companies.

Safety

Safety remains one of Nickle’s core values. The company celebrated seven years without a lost-time accident on February 1. The company hired Safety Director Steven Stewart in the fall, who implemented existing initiatives like the Behavioral Observation Safety System and improved programs including Safety Committees comprising office and field employees from both locations.

For the sixth consecutive year, Nickle received the Governors Safety Award, co-sponsored by the Delaware Contractors Association and Delaware Department of Labor. The Associated Builders and Contractors of Delaware presented Nickle with its eleventh consecutive STEP Award at the Diamond level — the fourth year achieving top honors. ABC Chesapeake Shores chapter also awarded Nickle a Diamond-level STEP Award.

ENR Top 600 Specialty Contractors

Engineering News-Record Magazine ranked Nickle Electrical Companies at #540 on its annual Top 600 Specialty Contractors list. The company also appeared on ENR’s Mid-Atlantic top specialty contractors list at #20.

Top Workplace

Nickle earned a 2017 Top Workplaces honor from The News Journal, based on employee feedback surveyed by WorkplaceDynamics. The assessment measured engagement, leadership, communication, and organizational effectiveness.

Community Outreach

Nickle employees volunteered at the 23rd Annual NAWIC Block Kids competition and the company sponsored numerous community events including the Delaware Tech Valentine Chocolate 5k, Milton St. Patrick’s Day Parade, ACE Mentor Program, Delaware Hospice 5k, Ronald McDonald House Run/Walk, Apple-Scrapple Festival, Easter Seals Walk With Me Delmarva, and more.

Nickle and employees donated $4,260 to the Friends of Delaware Veterans Trust Fund, and participated in Salvation Army bell-ringing with ABCares Delaware.

Volunteer Projects

  • Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games — Employees and family members distributed lunches to athletes, families, and friends
  • DNREC Coastal Cleanup — Volunteers cleared debris from Cape Henlopen State Park beach
  • Delaware Food Bank — More than 20 employees and family members prepared 386 meal boxes for local seniors in need

Excellence in Construction Awards

Two projects earned three awards from Associated Builders and Contractors:

  • University of Delaware Cannon Laboratory — A 40,000-square-foot educational lab renovation in Lewes, DE, winning awards from both ABC Delaware and ABC Chesapeake Shores
  • Hosting.com — Electrical expansions and additions, winning a Merit award from ABC Delaware

Nickle now holds more than 40 Excellence and Merit in Construction awards combined.
