Nickle Excellence in Construction award count now over 40

Nickle Electrical was recognized at the Associated Builders and Contractors of Delaware Excellence in Construction Awards Dinner last week. Two projects from the past year received distinguished awards. The University of Delaware Cannon Laboratory won an Excellence Award and Hosting.com won a Merit Award. UD Cannon Lab also won an Excellence award from the ABC Chesapeake Chapter at a dinner in September. With these awards, Nickle Electrical now holds more than 40 Excellence and Merit in Construction awards from ABC Delaware and ABC Chesapeake chapters.

UD Cannon Laboratory

The University of Delaware’s Lewes, DE campus houses an educational lab originally built in 1975. This project was a renovation to the 40,000-square-foot facility. Nickle provided the complete installation of a new roof, complete HVAC system, including duct work throughout, and a complete electrical system. The electrical distribution system was completely upgraded. Included in this was the installation of a 600-kilowatt emergency backup generator. A complete life safety system was replaced as well, including the fire alarm system and egress lighting. The data room, located on the second floor of the building, had to be maintained during the project as this room handles all data and communication for UD’s southern campus. An update to the facility’s library was also in the scope of work.

Hosting.com

Nickle’s scope of work for Hosting.com included the install of two owner-supplied 500-kVA uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems with a bypass switch for four transformers, four distribution panels, four secondary panels, and 16 panels in the server room. A new 500-kilowatt generator was also installed next to six existing generators behind the building. Electricians also wired the HVAC systems. Nickle was also charged with the task of adding infrastructure for future servers and customers as Hosting.com continues to grow. The company provides 24/7 web hosting services, technical support, cloud assistance, and many other specialized services to more than 2,000 customers. Because of the nature of Hosting.com’s business, it was imperative to the company’s day-to-day operations that all existing equipment was kept live and free of interruptions throughout the duration of the project. Nickle electricians were successful in this endeavor, avoiding interrupting service to thousands of customers for two months.
